District Community Strategies for Croydon
Croydon Council has launched a pilot scheme to develop new district strategies for four areas in Croydon: New Addington and Fieldway; Addiscombe; South Norwood and Woodside; and Coulsdon.
To kick-start the process of putting together these plans, Croydon Council has developed an on-line survey for residents to define the priority issues that they want the District Strategies to cover by exploring how their community contributes to their quality of life. The Council wants to encourage everyone who lives, works or regularly uses services or amenities in any of these areas to fill out the ‘Shaping the Future’ on-line survey. The survey will be available to complete between October 1st and November 10th.
Croydon, like all London boroughs, is seeing rapid growth and change. The new District Strategies will build on all the work and consultation that has already taken place and develop a framework to protect what’s best about an area and shape the future with local people’s involvement. These strategies will be relevant to everyone and it is important that the Council hears from the whole of the community – not just those who are already active – to ensure as wide a possible range of opinions and experiences are considered.
The purpose of the District Strategies pilot is to develop plans for each area that will focus public services and new investment to maximise the quality of life of local residents. The District Strategies will also seek to promote key assets in the area and act as a lever for renewed investment.
The results of the survey will not seek to replicate previous consultation – especially in those areas that have been consulted about new developments regularly over recent years. The purpose of the District Strategies is to create a framework to look at service delivery and new development in the context of the whole area and the whole community – to introduce new priorities and extend our thinking about possible solutions for known issues.
The views gathered from the online survey will be used to develop the strategy through a series of theme-based workshops from late October through November. The workshops will be open to everyone interested in sharing their experiences of key themes such as crime, environment and youth services. The workshops will provide an opportunity to work side-by-side with service providers to identify the opportunities to tackle priority issues, provide services more efficiently and ensure that new development provides the greatest possible benefit to local people.
